Comics sales up in wake of you-know-what-movie – MSN KMID Texas

A lot of people ask me, 'Do you know where the Spider-Man comics are at?" Marquez said. "I'd show them where they would be, [but] we wouldn't even have a single one." Sold-out shelves and heightened sales aren't unique to Spider-Man; whenever a comic book property hits the screens, be it a movie or TV show, its success directly impacts the demand for comics, said James Laws, owner of The Hive Comics & Collectibles..."

1940's "Fantastic Comics #7 is an example of the Fox line at its best" – Bleedingcool

Nice overview of the issue with attention to the ramifications going into the stories regarding budding technology changes happening in the word of 1940. Also features a look at a Fletcher Hanks "Stardust" story.

The Stardust story "The Anti-Solar Ray" is another example of creative comic-book interpretation that repurposes the underlying science. Astronomers had used the phrase "anti-solar rays" decades before this comic for sunlight that appears to converge at the point opposite the Sun. Hanks turns that real term into an imaginary cosmic weapon. The story's villains plan to stop the Earth from rotating, eliminate gravity, chain themselves to the ground, secure the water supply with machinery, and rule whatever population is left..."

Supergirl gets new troubles: AI generation during pre-production – Comicbookmovie

Supergirl was an unmitigated disaster for DC Studios... Earlier this month, Supergirl ended its time in theaters with a dismal $125.8 million, making it the lowest-grossing DC movie since 2004's Catwoman..."

Apparently, AI was used for work on Lobo within the Supergirl film, spawning an internet backlash. Film makers using AI (instead of hiring actual human concept artists) are going to have to hide what they're doing better since there's a very strong film-world attitude that holding back AI from grabbing up jobs is super-important.

It's a little baffling that Warner Bros. Discovery included this in official material for Supergirl..."

What's happened to DC's “Gods and Monsters” plan for their movie slate? – Comicsbeat

Superman: opened in 2025, made $354,223,803 worldwide (the most of any Superman film), and was a hit on all fronts, and even made Superman cool again..."

What? Is this AI? Superman made $618,723,803 worldwide. Just look at the Top Earning Superhero Movies of All Time chart – as of August 2026, James Gunn's Superman is #45, just barely ahead of Logan.

And, adjusted for inflation and ticket prices along with special costs for IMAX, etc., it doesn't come close to the original earnings on Christopher Reeves' Superman of 1978, which with those adjustments might be as high as $1.4 billion. For that matter, with or without adjustment for inflation, the 2025 Superman doesn't beat out Snyder's Man O' Steel from 2013 ($668,045,518 worldwide).

Frank Miller talks about The Odyssey, Spider-Man and his new book Push the Wall also the documentary on his career – Hollywood Reporter MSN

Tuesday sees the wide digital release of Frank Miller: American Genius, the documentary made by his creative partner Silenn Thomas, which doesn't just look at his career and work but, as he puts it, delves into "this wonderful subculture that we all share of comic book and how it celebrates itself all over the planet..."

Your book is part memoir and part lessons in creativity. Why do it this way? ...."

Amazon would be delighted to sell you a copy of Frank Miller: American Genius

The number of comic book people Neal Adams impacted (in a good way) seems to be a very long list.

I got my career started by calling up Neal Adams' office and getting a meeting with him... And he was listed in the phone book. And I got to meet him that day, an hour after I called. And he looked over my drawings and told me they were terrible and sent me off. I redid them and I saw him again and again and again. And he was always a harsh critic, but every time he taught me more and more, sometimes doing drawings over them. And, and as the months went by, he got me my first job and he continued to be a sensei and an advisor to me on things professional and on how to deal with being an artist in the world and many other things...

... one time, Neal and I were at a comic book convention and I just took him aside and I just said, "Neal, how do I thank you for what you've done for me? You've never asked me for anything." And he said, "Oh, there's only one thing you can do. Do the same thing for the next guy." Well, this book really is my attempt to do the same thing for the next guy. And to commit to paper my experiences, my observations and, and the lessons learned in making comic books..."
